President’s Statement – Millie Rogers
As a dynamic team of powerful women, we accomplished many things in 2006 for the Georgia Federation of Republican Women. With your continued support and involvement 2007 can be an even better year. The following report recaps the activities of 2006 and reminds us of our goals for 2007
Goals/Accomplishments for 2006 and 2007
Membership: Expand the number of Republican Women’s Clubs in Georgia and form new clubs.
- Chartered four new clubs in 2006 and one in January, 2007. (Bartow County, District 11; Camden County, District 1; New General Club in Fayette County, District 3; Carroll County, District 11; Fannin County, District 9.
- Total Club membership is 1264. Still much room to grow.
Training: Help clubs grow their membership through sharing ideas from NFRW and within GFRW; develop strong leadership through training workshops.
- Promoted NFRW “One + One” Membership Initiative at all meetings.
- Promoted NFRW “Every Membership Counts” Membership Initiative.
- Winter Board Meeting Activities:
The NFRW/GFRW president’s orientation was held.
The NFRW “Cup of Coffee Fund” was presented to send a grassroots person to the NFRW Biennial Convention.
- Spring Board Meeting Activities:
Marilyn Thayer, former NFRW President shared her visions for growing Republican Women’s C.
Presidents’ Forum was held.
Gussie Johnson worked diligently on Voter Vault program, certifying over 10 women to use the system for membership.
- Fall Board Meeting Activities:
Billie Love presented her “Marketing Strategy” plan for membership development.
The NFRW Parliamentarian conducted a Parliamentary Procedures Workshop for over 40 participants.
· Participation: Increase membership involvement and attendance at GFRW meetings through informative and educational programs.
- The average attendance at Board Meetings was 66.
- Board meetings provided opportunities for updates and reports from a cadre of exceptional speakers, including:
Randy Evans, Legal Counsel for the Georgia GOP – current legal issues and voting.
Congressman Phil Gingrey – recent events in Congress, including Medicare Part D.
U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson – major issues including his proposal to abolish the IRS.
Congressman Tom Price – health issues.
Termite Watson and his author, Suzy Pepper – story of an American Prizefighter who
went to Iraq to kill bugs and built an Olympic Team instead.
Martha Zoller – conservative talk show host discussing women in broadcasting.
Rep. Donna Sheldon, Dacula HD 105 – major bills passed in the Georgia House.
John Watson, Chief of Staff for the Governor – the Governor’s 2006 campaign.
Rebecca O’Dell – “Our Current Constitutional Crisis: the Loss of our Republican Form of Government.”

Sandy Froman, NRA President – “Why the Second Amendment Keeps America Free.”
- At a reception at the Governor’s Mansion, First Lady Mary Perdue spoke on the role of women in the Governor’s race, including key points that we could share with our friends/family about women’s issues and the Governor.
· Communication: Build an informative Web site with links to other clubs; establish an electronic journal.
- The First class Web site was established by Webmaster Bettye Chambers. The Web site is kept current with all GFRW, NFRW and Republican Party information.
- An A+ electronic journal – VOICES – has been established with a format to be educational and informative.
- Publications/Communications Committee
· Recognition: Provide recognition for clubs and members, increase the number of NFRW awards in 2007.
- GFRW is applying for the NFRW Betty Heitman Award, a State Excellence award.
- Articles have been submitted to the NFRW Republican Woman’s Magazine and all articles have been in recent issues: 2006 Fall/Winter issue, Spring/Summer and 2007 Fall/Winter issue.
- A nomination was submitted to NFRW for the Pathfinders Scholarship.
- Newly formed New Generation Fayette County RW was highlighted in the 2007 Fall/Winter issue of the NFRW Republican Woman’s Magazine.
· Support: Recruit new Ronald Reagan Club members and GFRW sustaining members to provide funding for the website, printing educational materials, posting the VOICES journal, and forming and supporting new and existing clubs.
- The Reagan Club has 38 members ($100 each) and 1 sustaining member ($25).
- Over $1,300 has been raised through raffles.
· Presidential Highlights
- Having Tea at the White House and picture with Laura Bush
- Participating on a panel for Women’s History Program at Georgia Tech
- Attending (54 ladies) and having pictures at the Capitol for “Red Coat Day”
- Having Lunch at the Georgia Chamber with the Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- Speaking at the Women’s Equality Day at the Capitol
- Attending the RNC Women’s Leadership Conference
- Revising the Bylaws
- Designing a new GFRW Logo
- Adopting the new slogan “Empowering Women in Politics for the 21st Century”
- Adopting the newsletter for the GFRW website
- Changing the GFRW newsletter from paper to an electronic communication.
- Changing the newsletter format to a journal format for VOICES
- Sponsorsing a Candidate Caravan at St. Simons Island, GA
- Working to elect Karen Handle, first Republican Woman to be elected Secretary of State
GFRW President’s Goals for 2007
· Membership, Membership, Membership
- Grow more memberships and more clubs
- Retain and increase memberships in existing clubs
- Form five new clubs and two new “New Generation of Republican Women’s Clubs”
- Increase Reagan Club membership and sustaining membership
· Host an unforgettable 50th Anniversary Celebration
· Sponsor a second Annual “Red Coat Day” at the Capitol
· Continue work to empower women in politics
· Continue the informative GFRW website
· Continue the electronic journal/magazine VOICES
· Assist clubs in completing applications for Achievement Awards
· Continue efforts to promote GFRW
· Increase positive publicity in the media
· Continue to offer workshops and have informative meetings
· Seek the State Betty Heitman Award for State Excellence
· Host and coordinate an NFRW Campaign Management School in Georgia
· Submit quarterly articles to NFRW for the Republican Woman’s Magazine
· Attend the NFRW Biennial Convention in Palm Springs, CA.
