Dear GFRW Friends,
The NFRW Board of Director's
meeting that was heldin Washington, DC March
28-31 was a wonderful with lots of great
speakers, Rich Galen from Speaker Newt Gingrich,
Congressman and Senator's such as Cong. Duncan
Hunter, Cong. Jindell from LA, Senator Trent
Lott, Doro Bush (sister of Bush 43, daughter of
Bush 41).
White House Tea - While we were
in DC, Bettye and I went to the White House and
had tea and our picture with First Lady Laura
Bush. As always, this is a major highlight of
our trip to the spring NFRW BOD meetings. This
is a privilege allowed to Regents and Capitol
Regents only and it is so worth it! Regents
donate $1,000.00 per year and the Capitol
Regents donate $5,000.00 or more per year! This
can be done in quarterly payments and you can
raise the money from individuals who might like
to help you to become a Regent and you represent
them!
Taiwan Embassy - I along
with approximately 75 other NFRW members were
invited to attend a special dinner. It was just
something you only dream about getting invited
to attend. They were most wonderful hosts and
hostesses. Their embassy home is named Twin
Oaks and it sits on 18 acres in Washington, not
far from the National Catheral....awesome!
We learned through our visit with our host that
Taiwan is not recognized or does not have
membership in the UN....some people would think
that this is a good thing! There is no free
trade agreement with this ally of the US and
they also have not representation in the World
Health Organization..
At
the Board of Directors Meeting we
elected the
2007
NFRW Nominating Committee to nominate
the official NFRW slate of officers for
2008-2009 term. The committee
members are as follows:Betsy O’Neill,
Texas, Chair
Vicki
Drummond, Alabama, Secretary;
Martha
Jenkins, North Carolina; Suzanne Connelly,
Pennsylvania;Anne Britton, Arkansas;
Lois Godfrey, California; Mary Anne
Christie, Ohio; Alternates: Lavigne
Kirkpatrick, Florida and Marjorie Bridson,
New York.
Kansas City, Mo., was selected
as the site of the 36th Biennial Convention,
to be held in the fall of 2011.
A new iniative
"Launch to Victory", a five-year
financial plan for the NFRW, was passed by the
Board of Directors and launched during the
meeting. The plan includes the goals of
increasing levels to 200,000 sustaining members,
400 Regents, 100 Capitol Regents and 30,000
donors. Election goals include training more
candidates and campaign workers, and sending
more strike force volunteers to work in targeted
states.
Amendments to the
NFRW Bylaws
were debated, voted on and passed during the
meeting. The amendments will be listed in the
Official Call to the
34th Biennial
Convention,
which will be distributed this summer. An
increase in NFRW membership dues was also
debated, voted and passed.
The Board passed
Resolutions recognizing the late
Charlotte Mousel, NFRW president,
1993-95, Support for our Troops in Iraq,
Afghanistan and the Global War on Terror, and to
continue to maintain the White House in the
upcoming 2008 elections.
Workshops were
held on Outreach and Membership
Divesity and
Razzle Dazzle Road Show. Sandra Johnson,
GFRW Assistant Treasure attended the NFRW online
database training.
Legislative Day on
the Hill on Thursday had more
than 215 Republican women wearing their "red
coats" and
visiting the U.S. Capitol to meet with
legislators. We met with U.S. Senator Johnny
Isakson, Congressman Phil Gingrey, Congressman
Price and Julianne Saxby and a member of U.S.
Senator Chambliss staff. Congressman Lynn
Westmoreland attended the breakfast with us at
the Capitol Hill Club and he spoke to the group.
We ran out of time and had to cancel our
appointments with Congressman Kingston and
Nathan Deal. Congressman Linder had meeting
conflicts on that day.
Fashion show by
Marsha Nelms - "CELEBRATING AMERICAN
BEAUTY -" a NFRW Fundraiser on Friday
evening was very successful. The master of
ceremonies was Michael Steele, GOPAC and the
keynote speaker was Mrs. Romney. It was an
wonderful event.
It was an outstanding
meeting!
